Plenty of Opportunities for Singers This Spring

Dr. Lyn Ransom, music director and founder of the 60-member auditioned VOICES Chorale, is seeking additional singers with good reading skills for the second half of the concert season. The chorale draws its members from both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and although basses and tenors are especially needed, singers in all voice parts are encouraged to audition. A few openings in Sotto Voce, the chamber chorus, are also available. The spring program includes:

  • “Irish Heartsong”: An all Irish concert, with a return visit from Irish singer Gerry Dignan, on March 10 in Princeton and on March 11 in Wrightstown, Pa.
  • “Cathedral Classics”: A first time collaboration of VOICES with the Bucks County Choral Society. 150 singers will perform at the Princeton University Chapel, Princeton on June 10, accompanied on the chapel’s Skinner organ.

Other events include a Young Composers Concert in Hopewell on April 17, featuring the winners of VOICES’ Annual Children Music Composition Contest; “Cabaret & Cabernet,” a fundraising event at the Hopewell Valley Vineyards, Pennington, on April 22, showcasing VOICES singers in solo, duet and ensemble music; and several interactive outreach concerts at assisted living facilities in New Jersey and Bucks County, Pa.
VOICES invites area singers who love to rehearse and perform with other good singers to contact the audition coordinator, Sandy Duffy, at 609-799-2211, or write to auditions@VOICESChorale.org. Auditions are informal and conducted in a positive and friendly atmosphere.

Weekly rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, 7:30 - 9:45 p.m., at Music Together, 225 Pennington-Hopewell Rd (Route 654), Hopewell and will resume on Jan. 9. Additional information about VOICES is available at VOICESChorale.org and by subscribing to VOICES’ newsletter at enews.archive.com/VOICES.

VOICES programs are made possible in part by the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission through funding from the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment of the Arts.
